Even the sound of the rain is romantic in this..

Ah, the food of love..

I will be listening to Oscar Peterson, Tord Gustavsson, Charles Aznavour, Steven Isserlis, Quator Ebene, Arvo Part and Jan Garbbarek, Nina Simone, Sinatra, Mozart, Pucccini, Satie and Debussy, Elaine Page perhaps, or Judy Dench, Katie Melua..

And I plan to listen again to some music posted under Simply Listen (I began my Desert Island Disc selection some years ago and didn't finish it - overwhelmed by the inppossibility of choosing eight!)

I think this is very romantic - one of Reynaldo Hahn's songs in the Venetian dialect. It is called 'Asleep on the Water' and is about a young man taking his beautiful lover out onto the Venice lagoon in a gondola. It is a barcarole, and on my CD sung so magically by Anthony Rolfe Johnson - it sounds so suffused with tenderness and with the wonderful rocking motion of the gondala.

I did not manage to find this exact song on YouTube, the same singer, sings Handel arias beautifully. Do you not see my lady down in the garden singing is my favourite. I will try to post it soon. Thank you Rosemary.

One of my favourite songs by Handel, and considered the ultimate song about unrequited love. Many wonderful versions out there, especially Aled Jones and Tom Allen; it also features in the TV version (Impeccable adaptation of a wonderful book) of Ford Maddox Ford's Parade's End.
