Simply..still Kondoing....

Are you?

I'm starting on the studio which I'm treating as a separate enterprise from the house, and I'm doing it by the book. That's Marie Kondo's book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying. Love it. First clothes. As the studio is at the back door there are waterproofs and outdoor jackets and boots and shoes there, but that didn't take long. Then books - only about a dozen art book here, all keepers. Easy peasy. Then PAPERS!!!! Years and years worth of papers. A whole plan chest full, and 8 box files (this is before I start on the art....)

Do they spark joy? That is the question!

There will need to be more than one pass here - but I've got rid of a huge bagful already.

How is your Kondo process going?

I am reminding myself that this is a six month project...

Today was International Day Of  Happiness. Well, why ever not? Three cheers for this initiative!

What made you happy today?

I was happy starting to declutter my studio, and I was happy planting some of the 180 primroses I grew from seed into Coronation Wood. I would have been happy to see the eclipse, but it was very cloudy here. Jessica at Rusty Duck got a unique image, by unique means.

I also enjoyed watching this which celebrates the resilience of the human spirit.  And this enchanting Japanese trailer for The Tale of Princess Kaguya (not the American version!)

I hope you are happy tomorrow too!

Love seeing your studio and knowing you're happily tackling that task. Yesterday I tackled the garden, feel very chuffed with the end result and look forward to planting new things sometime soon. I also drove the lawnmower with a trailer on the front (pushing rather than pulling it) and parked it in a narrow space perfectly, first time. That pleased me more than its proportionate value for some reason! Enjoy your time in the studio!

I was exhausted just reading about your gardening Angela and well done with the parking!

I am happy today because I'm home after a week of traveling. It's so nice to open the front door, be home, able to find my own space & not in a hotel room. 24/7 even w someone you love can be wearing after a week.

Good luck tackling the paperwork, Freda. It can be intimidating, but think of the sense of accomplishment when it's done.

So nice that you are happy to be home. I am anticipating loving the space in the studio and in my head when the paper is sorted!

Will you show us the end result? My Kondoing now can start seriously and I am looking forward to it. I finished reading the book Wednesday and while reading had some trial runs with a really pleasing result. Still not very good at talking to my stuff though, how about you?

I will Cath. I'm not very good either at talking to my stuff, but when I do remember it does make me giggle! Glad you're getting pleasing results already.

I had skepticism with the thought of talking to my stuff, until I realized that with my books, that's exactly what I do. The other stuff, not so much. Wonder if that's because I feel my books already talk to me first?

Thanks for the link Freda. It was good to see the eclipse even if it was rather less dramatic than I'd hoped.
You would be impressed with my clearing out prior to moving back into the study. It will be minimalist in the extreme and a much nicer place to work. The room feels so much bigger!

I am still Kondoing too! Have been in the gradual process of moving to our much smaller second home, with the goal to sell the other one soon. It has been a unique way to Kondo -- moving only items we truly love or definitely use to the "retirement" house, and then figuring out what to do with the rest left back at the bigger house...we've given away many things and are very close to being ready to put the house on the market. I am still wrestling with photographs, however. Lots and lots of photos. Even though they have been scanned, I may want to create a "greatest hits" album using prints pulled out of the old albums before tossing/burning the rest. Or perhaps I will invite my daughters to pull out and keep any of their favorites. Need to figure this out. Especially if I don't want to move 5 very large boxes of photos and photo albums to our small house. I can certainly understand why Marie Kondo suggests saving photos for the end. They just plunge you into memories and nostalgia and tug terribly on your emotions!

Wow! Major work - well done! I think asking your daughters to choose the photos they want is a great idea...I shall follow your example though the thought occurs to me - will they have time to look? Busy lives.....just as I was too busy to edit them as I went. Let me know what decisions you make when you have figured it out please Elizabeth! Thank you for sharing.

I am in our study / office with Kondo - I am exhausted! So much paper - I am an avid clipper of magazines who finds it hard to let go. I might just scoop the lot into the recycle in a drastic measure. I have done some of the books in the study - have yet to blog about it - but I am pleased with the result. I have had a cold in the last few days so reread some of the books just to make sure I didn't really want them and guess what I didn't! Good luck with your studio.
