Simply..survival strategies....

Gwendoline in a recent comment mentioned her 'we will get through this kit'. Sausages are part of her kit, and marking occasions like Burns Night. Two good strategies I thought!.

It made me think it might be fun to share the strategies we all hve. Our circumstances will all be different of course, but we all have this in common - we have to find ways to get through this and come out the other end sane, and ideally stronger.

An important part of my kit is to get up about the same time each day and after feeding the birds and myself, do my FlyLady routine.  The Fly Lady website is huge and it would be easy to get lost in it. I just go to one page and do what it says there. Here is today's page.  So easy! I have been using it for years. It covers pretty much everything to do with running the house and makes it a doddle. Over a period every corner of the house is cleaned (the 15 minute Mission). So I know the basics are always covered, with minimum effort. Housework is one area where I have alwyays been for minimum effort!

It's about self care really, enjoying my home.

My 'kit' is infinitely expandable and includes anything I come across that lifts my spirits. Sausages, Sibelius, Snowdrops & Silliness. Also, very much, your blog. Cheers Freda.

I find keeping a routine going is a good survival tool but too much chocolate is helping as well. Taking pleasure in lots of small things like watching a blackbird skating about on the frozen bird bath and looking at the stars.

“too much chocolate”??! Does not compute!

Joy in small things, and in chocolate, never fails.

I had never heard the word “doddle”. Am going to make it one of my favorites🤗. And flylady.net! I am going to use it every day!! Thank you, Freda. Can’t wait to shine my sink! I do also get up at the same time everyday but only because my husband and three dogs insist on their walking routine. This time of year my boss (me) asks me to work 10 to 3 (home office) to do tax preparation and year end record keeping. I dress as tho I am actually going out to work - makeup, shoes, etc. Helps me get in the mood. I am letting go of so many details that were necessary for years. The pandemic has given me more time to think - to figure what is most important in life and to begin shedding those things that aren’t - routines and details in life as well as physical things. I have begun making my home cozier; learning to meditate; allowing myself to slow down and read more. I will stop.🥰

Lots of positives there MaryR! Dressing the part always works.

Two little things in the kit:

A very slow five minute ballet stretching routine to Radio 3, each night-time, whilst waiting for my kettle to boil for my bedtime herbal tea.

My Chanel lipstick: for government-decreed walks in muddy lanes, for greeting the delivery person's brief visit, for my exciting weekly expedition to the post office. Even under my mask!

I like a Scottish Ballet excercise video now and then. That sounds like a lovely routine. Love the lipstick too!

Have you noticed, Flylady's house must have no stairs. She never tells you to clean them - and it's not a job I rise to willingly!

She lives in a wooden building all on one floor - I saw a video once...

Oh Flylady! She saved my life 20 years ago! Always recommend - though as you mentioned, her website could do with some Marie Kondoing...

I feel slightly guilty for not suffering much with the restrictions; my husband is home all the time (mixed feelings about that LOL!!), I can still see my local family incl. mother and grandchildren, though I have yet to meet my newest granddaughter in person, as they are across a border 3 hours away, but it will happen and we have Facetime. And I have an endless supply of wool, books, creative pursuits, a dog to entertain and go out with, we even had two weeks of beautiful snow... I feel I have nothing much to complain about. I can get out to buy food easily (on foot or by car, snow permitting), they haven't closed the flower shops this time (and in any case, my husband's orchids are ALL blooming!) and I can even take my mother's lockdown embroidery to the art supply shop for framing. Is this my kit?!

Having all 3 of my children in the vicinity, reading, knitting, 2 art classes per week, Freda's blog ... this is what keeps me sane right now. Here in France we are waiting for the government to stop beating about the bush and make some decisions ...
