Simply..swallows!

Today I saw the first swallows and yesterday I heard the first cuckoo. These things always lift my spirits and nourish my soul.

Picture
Watching the beautiful colours develop in the tulips also lifts my spirits.

They change every day.

Even from morning to evening.
Picture
The colours of the stems change too.

So subtle - this tulip started out yellow...

I just woke up this morning feeling better. So I made a late birthday cake. Please help yourself...

I forgot to say that what lifts me up the most when i am down is a brisk walk outside, in nature, with a companion, if at all possible...but even alone..fresh air and brisk walking!

Feast for the eyes and taste buds! I was wondering, do you plant new tulip bulbs every year or lift them and store them for the following year?

Tulips don't repeat very well here except for Purissima and I now buy new ones every year from Sarah Raven - I wait till she reduces them as you can plant them really late (I planted these in January!). I once worked in a grarden where the bright red Apeldoorn tulip had come up every year for more than 40 years..

Tulips certainly do the trick. At the moment, watching grandchildren show me their latest projects on f@cetime are spirit lifting. A tour of the 5 yr old's massive blanket fort helps...except when he moves the camera/phone around so quickly trying to show me everything that I get motion sickness! Or proudly showing me the space where he has lost a second tooth. Small things.

Thank you, don’t mind if I do! (Although I suspect the gluten/dairy/sugar-free version might not be as nice as yours though!)
Gorgeous tulips. Everything has been quite early this year so some are already going over here.
What lifts me up is being out in nature, photographing it too, and doing anything creative... it switches on a different part of the brain I think.
Are you painting at the moment Freda? I don’t know what the situation with your exhibition will be, but it would be really interesting to see what work arose from this time. And you could always have an online exhibition... then we could all come!
There is also a great initiative on Instagram at the moment in response to this difficult time for working artists, where people post work for sale for no more than £200 and pledge that when they have made £1000 they will spend £200 on another artist’s work. It’s called #artistsupportpledge

My exhibition is not till October 2021 and I've not started work on it yet - too busy gardening while the weather is good! That sounds like a good scheme..

Deliberately slowing down whatever I am doing lifts me up when I feel down. It reconnects me to the 'here'. From your observations I gather this works for you too.
My yellow tulips thinking they are peonies do so too. Beauty does.

Wish I could have an early piece of birthday walnutcake (April girl too, birthday tomorrow) it looks very tempting but if you leave out the gluten, sugar, diary and eggs, what would be left...?

Beauty has always lifted me up too, and there is so much of it around....

What lifts me up when I am down? Color. Light. Words. Wind. Music. Faith. Friendship...and Cake.
