We change the clocks back an hour here in uk this weekend. Hibernation instincts revive (if that's the right word!)

I am looking forward to reading The Idea of North by Peter Davidson.

More about north tomorrow..

The North always sounds more romantic, doesn't it? I'm afraid I'd go south, though. Longer days and more heat! The book looks fascinating.

I am constantly torn between the two! I suppose the southern hemisphere readers have the opposite associations?

In the US, we used to change clocks on the same weekends as the UK, but Congress changed that in 2007. Now we 'spring ahead' one week earlier and "fall back" one week later. Unfortunately, body clocks don't always make this transition too easily. And, I remember my mother lamenting the long winter nights in London--even longer for you folks at more northern latitudes.

We will also change one hour back. Wondering now, what will I do with all that extra time...... :)

The book looks very interesting, it has some references to my part of the world also, I noticed. It tempted me to start another of my famous small reading projects as with Matsuo Basho's The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Malachi Tallack's Sixtee Degrees North it would make an equally interesting northern trio.
It has to remain a temptation, too many books still waiting to be finished before the end of the year.

This sounds like a book for me. Re Linda's comment, the days are very long up in the north of Scotland in summer. A friend's father claims he can still read his newspaper out in the garden at midnight in mid-summer way up in Thurso. Winter days are very short though ...
