Simply..the best part of the day....

For me the best part of the day has always been late at night and in the early hours when everyone else has gone to bed, I know the phone won't ring, no one is making any demands on me, all is quiet and and my time is my own. Time to think, study, or listen to music.

What's the best part of the day for you?

Your interest in Romancing The Ordinary, the book by Sarah Ban Breathnac, (I have no idea how to pronounce that!) inspired me to re-order it, and I discovered she has written a children's book called The Best Part of The Day, which is about a bedtime ritual where you discuss with your children what they thought was best about the day just passed. I shall buy it for 5 year old Scott.

I have linked to an interesting page (scroll right down for it) on Amazon where the author discusses her previous books, how they were dismissed at first as 'women's books' (!) but became world wide best sellers.

By the way I just love the Simple Life Lessons From A Three Year Old posts on Simple Happy Mum.

If I find my day dullish I only have to put on my rose-tinted specs for a bit -romance the ordinary - or remind myself that I am not in Syria, or Greece, and I immediately feel grateful again...

My favourite part of the day (when I'm up early enough) is the early morning, when everything feels fresh and new, there's no rush to do anything and it feels like you have the world to yourself. There's a whole day of potential stretching in front of you and it's peaceful and vibrant at the same time. Lovely marigold!

I have just finished reading 'Romancing the Ordinary' and immediately wanted to start reading it again as there is so much packed into it that I couldn't really take it all in - so I think I will read it month by month and try to achieve at least some of the things she talks about. I seem to be suffering from insomnia at the moment, for some reason or other so I am seeing more of the night than I usually do - it does give you a different perspective of the world.

I think the internet was invented for insomniacs....

I think it sounds roughly like Brannock. I looked it up because I couldn't stand not hearing it properly in my head. I'm going to get that book. Definitely.
I still prefer early mornings but get hungry for lunch rather too soon!

I recommend at least two breakfasts! Works for me...

Although originally I was much more a morning person, rising at six,
I am learning to appreciate the quiet of the early hours of night.

I have Sarah Ban Breathnach's 'Simple Abundance' which is a yearbook as well. I bought it in 1997 and remember I liked it then. Now I am starting to feel tempted to add this one as well..

As you know I love the Quaker term about a thing 'speaking to your condition'. I gave away my copy of Romancing The Ordinary but have also also tempted to have another look.....second hand in good condition books are very affordable..

On these hot summer days, the best part of my day are just after dinner, where I sit in the porch watching my husband water our trees and our son playing, with the cats by my side, just resting and feeling the cool breeze from the mountains... It's perfect for me.
I'm so glad you enjoy the lessons! Thank you very much.

When I lived in a hot climate that was my favourite time too - and my husband watered our garden then...happy days.

Early morning, before anyone else is up, is my favorite time. I've even been known to get a little cranky if they get up before their usual time.

I haven't read Romancing the Ordinary (& prob should) but I do have her Simple Abundance. It was the rage around here, prob 20 years ago & I can't seem to part with it. Marie would say it gives me joy. SBB certainly has had her problems...I think wealth made her lose her focus on simple abundance. All the money she made, she spent on a castle in England and lots of stuff, & was ruined financially. I think she's getting back on track now.
