..to save our treasures!  I was trying to protect the dark parrot tulip which had filled with rain and was bent over, but it was too windy to work so I cut the flower and put it under the lamp in the sitting room where I can watch it develop. Tulips do contintue to gow in the vase as I am sure you have noticed. They also drink lots of water and I will keep an eye on that. There was snow on the tops today.

Tulips are so thirsty once cut and yours are lucky that you are so protective, Freda. The various varieties of tulips that we have in pots seem to be flourishing this year and are mostly sturdy.

Your Tulips glow! Looking forward to seeing the Parrot Tulip. Why is it called that? Am drinking coffee and eating bowl of cereal on porch with doggies and birdies and squirrelies. Oh and mosquitos nibbling my ankles. Husband has walked the doggies and gone to play golf. 30 mph wind gusts today and expecting 95 degrees! Must wear ankle weights when out and about😂. That shows great devotion to your tulips, Freda, but with the strong gusts of wind I'm surprised your umbrella didn't take off. The tulips, which the deer ate in my garden, are also still growing but with their tops eaten there will be no flowers so think I will dig them out as they look very sad, however, all the surviving clumps are now festooned with smelly soap. Thank you for that tip.

My tulips are great this year too - I find them so cheering and, as you say, resilient. I love the way they grow in the vase and make so many lovely shapes! Leave a Reply. |
