Simply..the light....

Work also sustains me...

The attraction of the light on the water here in Venice is legend, but I am thinking of the light in the apartment - light to work by.

I like the lamps here and fortunately two of them can give me the bright direct light I need ro work by, along with specs and a magnifying glass, as I battle with the job of editing my messy novel. It needs some work said my assistant editor Heather when she first read it. I didn't realise quite how much!  I wish I had been more organised from the start, but a city in quarantine gives lots of time to focus on the job I'm here to do....

...and every now and then I focus on the light on the water. Stunning.

My relationships are so important to me!! I’m used to walking with friends, lunching, coffeeing, dinnering! Going on expeditions! Sharing books, poems, art, music! My husband, our children and grands, cousins! my female friends and my internet friends!!
And i especially like it when i introduce two of my friends who end up being friends independent of me...now about those incredible photos! Freda....they are simply gorgeous...i’m wondering if this retreat in Venice will invite another book into your life!

Much of that can be done online in this ctisis, though never the same of course. I don't know about another book - I just need to get this one done!

You will go back to Scotland overflowing with new inspiration for your painting Freda. The reflection in that last photo is magical! My family and friends, art, books, music, drawing, crafting and being out in Nature are the things that sustain me. I am so grateful for having my children all back home during this period of confinement. They help to keep the atmosphere joyful and optimistic in these challenging times.

Islands of beauty in our apartment, the acers on our balcony making new leafs, tiny notes from family and friends telling they are well, my contemplative reading.

Family and friends. Writing - especially being 'in the flow'. Reading a good book. Gardening, though not struck on weeding. Flowers in the house. Music. Travel. Anything that's beautiful.

Just thinking how many people are looking at things in a new light at the moment.
Is your novel on paper or the computer Freda?
Things that sustain me: family and friends, nature, creativity, and times of silence and solitude... the latter two are easily come by at the moment! Oh and a good laugh...

Both Lotta. I like the paper manuscript best (ptinted off from the computer) as I can flick back and forth and shuffle things around and get a better sense of the whole. Fascinating ptocess, so different from painting. I too am glad I like silence and solitude right now.
