It made me think of the Villhelm Hammershoi paintings in Copenhagen I mentioned in this post

So interesting. Jane Brocket in her blog and in her posts for Persephone has been discussing the work of Carl and Karin. Fascinating. IKEA have said they draw on the aesthetic of their work - and you can certainly see the influence when you look for it. I adore these northern artists’ work.

Also, I've been wanting to make, and seeking for the name of the apron-like Edwardian dresses sometimes worn, and thanks to you, now know that they are 'Reform or Aesthetic' dresses.

I love the stillness in this painting.

My daughter was a huge reader when she was little and this painting reminded me of her reading when she should have been doing other things, which happened often. One morning I discovered her on the floor in the hallway, one arm in her school shirt, the other not, elbows on the floor, bottom in the air reading Harry Potter! She didn't even notice me approaching!
