Simply..the simple life?

They say be careful what you wish for. I wanted to live simply...

Well I get up, eat, garden, sleep.

Repeat.

In many ways my life is more simple than it's ever been!

The complexities of the wider world are beyond me at the moment, so I will stick to the simpler things, the things I have some control over, and be grateful for them, as a way of coping.

What's your strategy?

So soothing to come on here and see your lovely photos. I have decided to follow Nichola Sturgeon’s advice instead of the man leading our country. I am trying very hard to see his advice, as beyond my circle of control, and to concentrate on things I can control, such as my garden, my walks, and simplifying at home! ( and keeping off social media and news sites!).

I'm with you PennyL and I love that you find coming here soothing. Writing it is wonderfully soothing for me.

Hello Freda. For most of us who are either required to be locked down or who choose to be so as the most effective strategy for stopping the spread, this time feels like one long retreat - and personally i am enjoying it. Missing the family - yes. Missing the rest of modern life - not much, although 60+ years of acquired behaviours takes a lot of leaving behind. Your blog helps - thank you

A retreat can be a very satisfying thing and I am so glad you are enjoying it. I have wondered - did you ever paint your gate red Mike?

Wow Freda - I am amazed you remember that - the gate needs remaking (well the hinge bar is rotten) so not yet - but I will - thank you for reminding me - and it will look good eventually......

I am with Penny above - there are far too many anomalies with the English plan at the moment. I am not sure 'we' personally can control the virus as suggested only control our own movements so we do not spread it around if we were ever unfortunate to come into contact with it. I could just drink your glass of juice whilst sitting in your lovely peaceful garden.

And yours looks untterly charrming for your VE Day festivities!

I came across this...in the rush return to normal, use this time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to. I like my slower pace, miss family terribly & find myself more anxious as we begin to open our community.

That is such good advice Cathy and means that some good things will come out of all this. Thanks for sharing it.

I can resonate with all that everyone is saying here. But i do not have a strategy. In fact, i feel that i am in suspended time, in a bubble...and that this could go on a long time..so whether i do something today or tomorrow..is meaningless..i’m in the present..and it’s perfectly fine here..but strategy and goals seem completely meaningless to me just now..i don’t mean this in a grim or sad way...just being here, now.

Being here now is in itself an adaptation (another meaning of strategy I think) and clearly the right thing for you just now Julia ('its perfectly fine here') . We all deal with things in our own way, and it will have meaning even if that's not clear to you just now.

My thought: never has the slogan, "one day at a time" been more appropriate. That's how I'm taking life these days.

A few, daily returning, elements have grown into being important for me: spending time in my balcony garden, free flow writing to clear my mind, reading a few pages and reflecting on the content, writing an email and a round of daily, weekly, monthly chores. It doesn't feel like a strategy. It may have the potential of a rule of life.

It sounds calm and sane and quite lovely.
