to the ridiculous on this blog! From ancient artifacts and heavenly gardens to my linen cupboard..  A question. Have any Marie Kondo fans reading this actually completed their 'tidying festival' as per the book? I'm considering trying and would really like to hear from anyone who has actually done it! Is this a bit mad? Is this just toooo boring?

Have completed....3 times!!! It is an ongoing process, in my book...:-) keep on keeping on, Freda....i’m borrowing a phrase from the husband of a friend: we have reached the “sharing phase” of our lives...and i do not think that will be over until we are living in a single room..not meaning to be maudlin..just pragmatic! (Or maybe optimistic?)

I do take your point Julia (and hereby award you three gold stars!) but I think when I have reached that click point in every room I will feel that I have done it thoroughly. I am not far off! Though rather dreading the shed...

I want those blankets on the top shelf!! love the colors & the plaidness of them. hmmm...what can I trade you? lol!

Those blankets are so homely. They are pure wool, for the guest room beds in winter, and came from Ikea. I find the more I do the more I feel like tackling things that need fixing and re-decorating - it's as if I have the headspace. Miss Minimalist is a good read too.

Homesteading is a fine concept - sefl sufficiency used to be the norm after all! I jump about a bit between categories and areas but I do like gathering together all I have of one category so that I can see how much I really have of one thing. Very satisfying and the domestic sphere is still where we spend most of our time and warrants such attention.

What on earth is a 'tidying festival' ? Kondo-ing sounds like such hard work, or is it just having a good clear-out?

Saturday evening found me making a list of categories Marie Kondo mentions in her first book. It made me wonder why once was not enough and why I would like to start another round.

cath, if you google konmari lists you will find free, downloadable lists online. i used that method and it was great!

The fact that Japanese houses tend to be much smaller could also be a factor Cath. The lists Julia mentions will be helfpful in breaking the task own into manageable bites!

I've completed, but because it was done on and off over a longish period of time and I got used to the changes, there was no 'ta-dah' moment upon final completion. Lots of little ta-dahs along the way though! And like others have said, I know there will be more to do as I change.

Forgot to say I have completed someone else's house too! A much bigger transformation because she had LOTS of stuff, but she is delighted. Definitely a ta-dah moment for her!

It was challenging and interesting and great fun! And I would happily do it again. I think some people need someone else there motivating them and giving them permission to do what they really want to do but can't quite allow themselves...

That's me. There is so much stuff that I would like to get rid of, but just don't get around to - I think I've mentioned family china on here before. I offered it to my sister and sister-in-law but they just said that they don't want what they have already got either. Nor do their children, but I don't have the heart to just throw it out or send it to a charity shop.

Family stuff can be hard can't it? I like Freda's idea, or if you really don't want it maybe you could have a final celebratory tea party with it to honour it, and your sister and sister-in law and their children could all come and bring theirs, you could take lots of photos and then you could all let it go...
