Simply..too comfortable?

Thinking about movement as an essential for human beings (back to that list.) Appaarently if there is a staircase and an escalotor 98% of people will use the esdalator even though all of us know that using the stairs will be better for our health in the long term

We used to have to move constantly to live - to find food and fuel but life today is so comfortable that it is said some even complain if they can't get a parking place close to the door of the gym, and may not even see the irony. There is a new  movement, as the pedulum swings, called  doing the hard thing encouraging us to toughen up a bit.

What do you think? Have we all got soft? Are we unable and unwilling to do the things which need a little effort?
I must keep moving!

I have always parked far away from entrances to stores to get the extra walking and wonder at people who circle around trying to find closer spaces. I am at the entrance to the store many times while they are still circling. Also, I seem to have always been in a hurry during my lifetime even as a young child. I walk fast and have to curb my impatience at people that don’t. Have to admit I don’t always walk the stairs if there is an escalator. I do walk the stairs where I live rather than wait for slow elevators. How come I am not trim and fit? Your pots of vines are so beautiful.

Perhaps you would be a lot less fit than you are, if you didn’t do there, sensible things you do? Keep up the good work! The summer flowers are still providing a lot of pleasure.

I'm always grateful for your reminders on many subjects, Freda: health, creativity, frame of mind. And am prompted, to take action.
I'm happy enough Spring to Autumn, the 'gardening gym' fulfils my movement needs. But, I need to find something for Winter.
I found this short series of creative movement videos, by Anne Golding, who runs a company of mature dancers in Dorset 'Grace+Growl' Fingerprint dance company.

The format I have chosen for the blog allows full scope to my grasshopper brain! Dancing sounds a fun winter activity. Thank you for the link. I am looking forward to exploring that.

Until my blood cancer diagnosis 2 years ago , I was a highly active smallholder. Now with medication and fatigue , my main exercise is gentle walking which I try to do on a daily basis . I find that lifts my mood and overcomes some of the fatigue. Yes , I do think that many people fail to put in the effort to actively keep fit. During Covid lockdown there was a lady in our village who bemoaned the closure of the gym she attended. The same lady didn't make any effort to walk along our country lanes each day . I'm sure that would have been more beneficial than a gym workout but she didn't think so !
Our sweet pea pots have decided the present heatwave is too much for them ! Poor wee things .

Well done with your daily walks. The exposure to daylight probably also helps lift your mood. It is sunny here, but not too hot for the sweet peas thankfully.

I am joining in the conversation a bit late! I read somewhere recently "You don't stop moving because you get old. You get old because you stop moving."
