Golden treasure.

Now before you say anything about Marie Kondo I can explain.

I have only rented it.

In my euphoria yesterday morning I spotted this tea service in the window of The Glory Hole, a charity shop beside the pier at Blairmore where we were having coffee.

Now you would not have been able to resist either, would you?

And no, I don't have anywhere to keep it.

Yet.

But I'm planning a few special afternoon teas....

Then I'll probably give it back to the Glory Hole to sell again.

Win win.

The shower cloth was my Mum's.

I've never used it.

Perhaps I will now - it matches so well and was clearly meant for this tea service.

Nostalgia rules!

I was very lucky to get it as when I went in someone else was looking at it and considering it, but he decided on something else! That was when I realized I really did want it. (Aren't we funny..)

I love, love, love this pattern. What a find! It's stunning! And perfect for afternoon tea.

If you don't mind my asking -- what pattern is it? I've always loved gold and pale mint green together.

It says Plant Tuscan China Made in England on it which I typed into ebay but there was nothing of this design. It really is beautiful isn't it.

That's quite the find! Especially since there are so many pieces. Plant Tuscan China sets are rare. They were operating under that name in Staffordshire at Longton from the late 19th c. until 1970, when they were acquired by Wedgwood.

I also did a bit of searching for the pattern and didn't see it. There are lots of beautiful Plant Tuscan patterns though. This one looks art deco.

If interested, you might try this fellow. It looks as though he knows the Plant Tuscan patterns and responded to someone else about their Plant Tuscan set without charging.

So beautiful - although not what I would have associated with you - I always think of you as contemporary - I wouldn't have been able to resist it either. The whole ensemble makes a lovely still life.

You are right - I like modern classics really - but this is a lovely contrast! I'm having fun looking out the few things that look similar - like my Mum's cloth, and I have a candlestick....

It makes me think of The Hague at the end of the nineteenth century.

I wonder what it's history is. It may well have been someone's wedding china, hardly used I think. Another author for me to look up - thank you Cath!

Wow, what an amazing tea set! I've never seen one with a pattern like that before - I think I might have succumbed too. I'm envious of your charity shop - my local one has wonky 3 legged tables and smells of musty carpets and death...
If the tea set continues to bring you joy you should keep it! When can we come round for tea? :)

A favorite story Gretchen likes to read to Grampa is Tea With Grampa. The first time she read it she didn't understand what Skype was & couldn't figure out why they couldn't share the cookies. Cute story & a sign of how the times have changed.

i am in the skype camp also...between us, we could probably sort out how to do it...it would be a skype conference call....each person has to supply their own cookies...:-)

i got so excited, i forgot to comment on the exquisite china....yes, i would want to keep it too...it is gorgeous! and i love how it looks with the shower cloth (what does that actually mean?..i haven't heard that term before.)

A shower cloth is laid lightly over a set table with food on the plates (I suppose to keep flies off) until people are ready to sit and eat when you can whisk it off!

Tea for 22? What a lovely set. And it must be even nicer knowing it will be yours for a good time, not a long time (but will it be hard to resist storing it for next year's gatherings too?!). Sometimes beauties come to us just when we need them. Enjoy those catch-ups!
