Simply..with a pop of colour!

I like a pop of primary colour, but in places where it can be easily changed - cushions, table napkins, flowers, cards, towels or even a wooden gate (though I don't think I will ever change the red gate.)

See posts here, here and here

The Scandinavians are fond of white, and the Venetians of warm rich reds and greens, the English fell in love with Farrow and Ball - I wonder why the differences? I love visiting stylish places and theatrical places. I have a memory of glancing through a window in Woodstock in Oxfordshire at a room almost entirely decorated in jade green and thinking I will do a room in that colour one day. I haven't found the right room yet...

What are your influences?

I am fond of colour myself but feel that you have to have large, light rooms to prevent them from becoming gloomy if you use dark, rich colours. I love the colours they use in stately homes; jewel colours, but certainly couldn't pull it off in my home, more's the pity - so I stick to boring neutrals.

There are some nice neutrals too though! In your recent pictures your newly decorated room looked lovely.

I've been thinking a lot about colour too today! That's a very interesting thought about different nationalities/cultures favouring certain colours... and probably a multitude of different explanations, but one to enjoy pondering. I wonder where you will do a jade green room one day?! I LOVE the mobile in your link - do you still have it up?

I took it down for the rusty candle ring - I think its time to change it back again!

Like you I like to work with colours in places where it can easily be changed. I am used to do the changes only with the change of the season, and have collected colours fitting the seasons. Thinking about this post has started me to wonder if it might be time to Kondo this habit and maybe some of the collected items too. Start afresh. I love working with colour accents, it gives me joy to do so, so why restrict it to four times a year?

Most important influences:
- A visit to a house of a friend of a friend over thirty years ago, the first time I saw an interior where space was as important as the furniture and decoration, I loved the quiet simplicity.
- A desk calender/notebook of Shaker houses and interiors, even longer ago.

Kondoing habits! There is no stopping us now! Those influences obviously made a big impact Cath.

Freda, i have the jade room...and i love it...:-) it is a small den with bookcases, a tan-colored sofa and dark red, jade and blue oriental rug, dark red trunk for a table. The jade walls look fabulous.
I am here in british columbia at the moment, and contemporary homes are all decorated with earth tones, dark brown accent wall, and then a lighter tan for the other walls, or the same in tones of grays or greens...i love it here, but it would never work for me at home...again, i think these colors work in BC because they are a reflection of the world outside....forest and mountains...the amount of light in a room is an important factor too, as many have said.

How nice that you have a jade room! Northerners seek more light perhaps? And fashion plays a part too...

Your links have made me spend longer than I should have reading through old posts! It's meant I really feel the need to start Kondoing again.......still not going to fold my socks though!! Penny

What are polymer clay transfers and what are they used for? As you may already know polymer clay is the hottest thing to hit the market.
