..or lack of it!

I know it happens to us all. Filled with self doubt about my novel I so miss Barry's support. I truly believe he thought I could do anything! I looked through the cards he gave me and found the one in which he wrote 'Use your talents to the full.' (See also here.) and sat it on the desk to inspire me.

On a health note, consider this.  Good for days when it rains?

Most of us are self doubters and our own worst critics. Consider that Barry knew you better than anyone. If he thought you could do anything, then believe it! Sending encouragement to you from across the Pond.

BTW - re: walking: Didn't I just make a comment not too long ago about doing 10 minutes brisk walking stints around my house on cold days? Guess I was on to something.

And when it comes to self-doubt, Freda..think about your morning pages..you wouldn’t worry about what you were writing there! So just plow on..something of use will show up on the page when you get out of your own way....having Barry’s support meant the world to you...How wonderful that he left you with all these loving messages to pull out whenever you need them! I went to hear helen humphreys speak..she is a canadian author. And she confessed that for her first book..she finally finished the manuscript and hated it..wrote 4 more versions over 8 years..hated them more...pulled out her original, and thought: i wonder why i didn’t like this? It’s perfect! And she published it in just that form. (And it did well!)...yes, self-doubt can be destructive! Thank heavens she did not throw away her first version, eh?

What a story! Thank you for that. I am trying not to be too harsh....and remember my word 'Gently'...

Freda, I think your inner story teller has just got the wrong memo! Instead of writing fascinating tales for you, it's telling you stories of self-doubt... But it must be an EXCELLENT story teller if it has you convinced! So once it gets the right memo there is no way your novel can possibly fail!! And it sounds as though Barry has left you (and it) the right words of encouragement...
Sending a hug of support... :-)
